Maunawili Falls

For President's Day we took a hike up to Maunawili Falls. The trail was very muddy.

The Falls were very small. But we had fun and the surroundings were beautiful.
Keilah held on tight to her reins.

Diamond Head Crater

We visited Diamond Head Crater, and I was astonished at just how huge it is. They have a tunnel through which we could drive to the center of the crater. Then we took a LONG hike up a steep side to the highest point of the crater. The view was spectacular. As you can see from the high rises behind me, we were pretty high up. The kids were troopers, and we had a great time.

Shark Encounter

For Chris's birthday he got to go swim with the sharks off the north shore of Oahu. Since he had this week off he took his birthday present a little early. The under water camera wasn't great, but he had a FABULOUS time and got to see plenty of sharks swim by.

Polynesian Cultural Center

We went to the Polynesian Cultural Center today. We started off by seeing canoes representing each Polynesian island float by with dancers on them. The pictures below show the kids eating the quava ice cream we bought during this show. Then I forgot I had the camera and didn't take any more pictures. :( After that we enjoyed Tongan drummers & shuffleboard, fishing in Tahiti, Bamboo instruments from Fiji, Hawaiian bowling (Keilah and I did a hula lesson while the boys bowled), and making fire with sticks in Samoa. We didn't stay for their new night show "HA - Breath of Life" because the kids were exhausted.

First Basketball Game

Silas's team (The Lakers) have been practicing hard for a month, and this Saturday was their first game. Silas was very good at defense. That's him in the yellow standing in front of the boy with the ball.

Silas is very good at running and knows all the positions very well. His coach (the large man by Silas) is a very good teacher and Silas is learning a lot.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year. We saw lots of fireworks from our driveway before going to bed at a decent hour. Today we went to the Bishop Museum. They have a lot of exhibits on Hawaiian history and culture as well as interactive displays on volcanoes. We caught the last weekend of their rotating exhibit on Dinosaurs. This T-Rex actually moved and growled!

Silas loved it, but their robotic dinosaurs' movements and sounds were a little too realistic for Ezekiel and he couldn't wait to get out of there after the first few displays.

Some Japanese tourists asked if they could take pictures of Keilah because she was so cute.
It was the most interesting dinosaur exhibit I've ever seen. They had the robotic dinosaurs as well as real bones and a table where kids could use brushes to uncover their own dinosaur. FUN!
